Kinderfeets wooden Balance bike
We have chosen Kinderfeets Wooden Balance Bike as the best balance bike for kids. In this article we will discuss what makes Kinderfeets bikes the best and why they are our top pick.
Also known as a push bike, balance bikes are designed to help kids as young as 2 learn the skills needed to ride without training wheels. This style of riding develops a child’s confidence in balance and motion. With a balance bike kids essentially use their feet as training wheels.
Kids first walk the bike forward. As they go faster, they stride with feet off the ground for longer periods of time, ultimately being able to pull both feet off the ground and coast with their feet on the pegs.
About the brand
Kinderfeets balance bikes were designed by Dutch designer Oscar Mulder. Noticing the flaws in other bike designs he created his own push style bike for his son Sebastian.
The basics of his design allowed children to place their feet comfortably on the ground making them feel much safer while building confidence.

How to ride a balance bike
Riding a balance bike for the first time will come very naturally to your toddler as young as 2 years old. Sitting on the bike your child will start to push forward with their feet comfortable on the ground. Keep in mind the seat needs to be adjusted to allow their feet to be flat on the ground.
As they go faster, they stride with feet off the ground for longer periods of time, ultimately being able to pull both feet off the ground and coast with their feet on the pegs, always having their feet available to catch them if they lose their balance.
Balance bikes allow children to naturally transition to a regular pedal bike. Having their feet available to touch the ground will build confidence and teach your child to ride a pedal bike much sooner.

Seeing this now makes me wish I had one of these as a kid.
They have a very nice look to them and I think they would be the perfect bike for kids under the age of 6. I like the idea of learning without the training wheels as it makes it much easier for kids to learn how to keep confident and balance. I remembered as a kid having training wheels on my bike, one of the issues I had was that the training wheels would bend over time which made it feel wobbly and not as safe.

Hi Arie,
I totally agree, the training wheels I had as a child did the same thing. The balance bike takes that uneasy feeling away and you learn to balance naturally. I simply love this bike!
Thanks for the comment.

Thanks Maria, This article has really help me. I was wondering how suitable this bike is for children who like bmx, and motocoss. My son really loves these sports, he is 3. And I know he will eventually be trying to jump ramps and make wheelies with it.
It looks quite tough, do you think it can take the knocks?

Great comment!
This is definitely a beginners bike and will set your child up for any type of future biking interests they have. I have seen these bikes in action, and they are for sure durable, kids are a lot tougher on products, and this bike has been built to handle some rough times 🙂
Hope that helps,
All the best.

Hi, Maria.
This is a great post on this wonderful bike. I’m so happy that I read it because I have learned so much about this bike.
I learned how to ride a bike the old-fashioned way and now I see that this method may be a much easier one.
The eco-friendly component of this bike makes it a real winner.
How did you learn to ride your first bike?
Do you feel that this bike makes learning quicker and easier?
Thanks. Paul

Great questions Paul,
When I was younger I learnt to ride by removing the training wheels and going for it until I go the hang of it. I still think this is a great way to learn, but know I see children learning with the balance bike and it is smooth and effortless. I love watching children start using this bike, I think the learning is more natural and it does happen quickly, even for very young children.

This is very interesting children toy as I may say. This bike is made of organic material and that is why it pays a lot attention.Learning to ride can be a big challenge for any child. While I was reading about I recalled my successful try to ride. l really loved my bike and I remember all the adventures I had while riding. Learning to ride is equal to learning to swim. These are sport activities that any child is about to learn and practise while growing up. I would like to know which first thing from these mentioned above did you learn to do?

Hi Gordana,
Thanks for the comment. When I was younger I think I learned to ride my bike before I learned to swim. I love both now!
Maria.
