Make the switch!

Making the switch from regular fabric sheets to organic wool dryer balls is so smart, you will wonder why you didn’t switch sooner.
Wool dryer balls are eco-friendly and a total game changer when it comes to saving money, energy and reducing waste.
Using wool dryer balls can decrease drying time by up to 40% per load. They will last you years compared to regular fabric sheets. Wool dryer balls eliminate wrinkles and static cling while naturally softening your fabrics and they don’t leave harmful synthetic chemicals on your laundry and on your skin.
Energy Efficient Wool Dryer Balls
Dryer balls are used to dry clothes much faster than regular drying goes. When you throw a load of wet laundry into the dryer, they will tumble around sticking together slowing the drying process.
When you add wool dryer balls they will get in between the fabrics, separating and pulling them apart with their weight. This allows more hot air to get around your fabrics, the dryers hot air can circulate more evenly and efficiently, thus speeding your drying time and using less energy.
The Advantages of Using Dryer Balls
- Cuts down drying time making your home more energy efficient
- Helps get rid of wrinkles, and the need for ironing
- Laundry comes out softer from proper circulation
- Stops static from forming
- Cuts down on over drying your clothes so they last longer
- You can over 1000 loads with each set of dryer balls

How to use your wool dryer balls

When we do not have the option to hang our laundry out to dry on a clothes line we have the convenience of our dryers to get the job done. Although there is a lot of talk regarding energy efficient dryers, the overall conclusion from most power companies is regardless of what dryer you own, they all use a similar amount of energy to run them. This is where we can make a difference. Using dryer balls will cut down energy usage, simply and affordably.
Using your dryer balls is fairly straightforward. The size of your laundry load determines on how many balls you should use. As a general rule use 2 balls for a small load, 3 balls for a medium load and 4-5 for a large load. Keep in mind, an oversized load of laundry is not efficient even with dryer balls.
Throw your wool dryer balls in the dryer with your laundry. That’s all! I recommend you set your timer 5- 10 minutes less than you normally do. Check to see if your laundry is dry. You should be able to get a clear idea of how much time you can cut off your drying time. Pretty cool if you ask me :)
Add Essential oils
This is where the fun starts. Adding essential oils to your wool laundry balls will give you that fresh laundry smell we have come so accustomed to loving, only now you can use fragrance free scents that don’t contain yucky chemicals.
Dryer sheets have an abundance of chemicals that leave a residue on your clothing and in turn on your skin. The skin, being the largest organ of the body, will absorb this residue and can accumulate in to body. Accumulation of toxins in the body can cause many health concerns, it’s better to avoid them all together.
Add about 5 drops of essential oils to each dryer ball and let soak in for an hour. I usually prepare my wool balls when I start the washer, by the time I am ready to switch the load over to the dryer they are ready to do their magic.
Oils I recommend for amazing smelling laundry!
You can add one single oil to all your balls or add a different oil to each ball giving you a beautiful blend of scents. All oils I recommend pair wonderfully together.
If you are unsure where to get your oils, I only buy mine from Rocky Mountain Oils. You can read why they are the best in our article: What is the Best Essential Oil Brand

THE BOTTOM LINE
It makes sense to make the switch from regular fabric sheets to organic wool dryer balls. They will save you money, time on drying, and your health, using this non-toxic alternative.
