I have been searching for a new pillow for some time now. I have been using a memory foam type, with one side that is supposed to be “cool”. Well, it doesn’t always work out that way for me. This is a very interesting post, and something I just might be willing to try. I have a couple of questions. Would this pillow be returnable if I don’t like it? I know sometimes personal stuff like this isn’t refundable. Also, I did notice you mentioned one “con” as it’s a bit noisy. Can you give me any kind of insight into how noisy? Is that something that I would get used to over time? If this will help with snoring, I need to get one for my wife LOL! This is very different idea, and I thank you for sharing.

Hello Steve and Kris, I am guessing that these pillows fall into the personal items that cannot be returned, though I am not totally sure, would have to contact the seller.
Buckwheat hull pillows make a gentle rustling noise when they are moved. Most people get used to the sound after a night or two. The sound also lessens as the hulls get broken in.

I do faintly remember what buckwheat groats smell like. I’ll take that over chemicals any day.
Like you said, it is really important to choose organic.
I’m always looking for non-toxic things for my home and I will have to try these. Especially since the foam pillow I’ve been using for years doesn’t provide much comfort.
I wonder how down pillows compare as far as comfort and health benefits?
Best Organic Lifestyle says
Hi Jo, thanks for stopping in. There are a few differences between down pillows and buckwheat pillows.
Down pillows are much more fluffy and soft, they are somewhat moldable so they can help with neck pain. They don’t have great air circulation and can get hot, they are also not hypoallergenic.
Buckwheat pillows offer a much more firm feel, that can take a bit to get used to. The hulls can be noisy, but it is a very moldable pillow that can provide amazing neck support. A buckwheat pillow can last up to 20 years! Air moves well through them so they don’t get overly hot.
Down pillows are easier to wash (just throw them in the washing machine), whereas buckwheat pillows take more work because you have to remove the hulls to wash them.
